The saucepan is the workhorse of cooking, as it readily lends itself to a myriad of cooking tasks, from cooking vegetables to making soup to heating up leftovers to boiling eggs to simply boiling a bit of water for a mug of tea or a cup of instant coffee or cocoa, not to mention cooking up a sauce. There is probably no piece of stovetop cookware that sees so much action as the humble saucepan.
