Cutlery

YourSmartKitchen offers a limited but varied selection of kitchen cutlery, which we permit ourselves to briefly outline below, under the assumption that some of our customers may be less familiar than others with 'the tools of the trade' of any cook worth his/her salt, as it were.

Quality knives are key to confident cooking, and a well-appointed kitchen can't have too many of them!

All-Purpose Knives

• The ubiquitous Chef's Knife (aka French Knife) with its slightly curved blade, permitting a useful rocking motion when slicing and dicing vegetables;
• The Bread Knife, typically with a serrated edge;
• The Paring Knife, for delicate work such as peeling, or, as the name suggests, paring; and
• The Utility Knife, a scaled-down version of the Chef's Knife crossed with a Paring Knife, making it less popular in the modern kitchen simply because improvements in the Chef's Knife, combined with "TV Kitchen" focus on the seeming limitless functionality of the Chef's Knife, have relegated the Utility Knife to the back burner, as it were, though, in defense of the humble Utility Knife, there is indeed a place for it in the hands of a good cook. Moreover, since television cooks have to perform in front of cameras, some of them may have a tendency to oversimplify things, including limiting the assortment of tools which they have to keep track of in front of rolling cameras, all of which suggests that the Utility Knife, while somewhat overlooked by some, is an indispensable tool for many capable cooks who would not want to be without it.

Specialty Knives

• Meat Knives (Filleting, Slicing, Carving and Boning Knives);
• Asian Knives (Santoku and Sushi Knives); and - though not knives proper...
• Shears (Poultry Shears and Kitchen Scissors), Cleavers, and the indispensable, all-purpose slicing & dicing tool that also makes perfect French Fries, julienne strips, etc., the Mandoline.

Our selection of Table Knives is presently limited to Steak Knives - but we are open to suggestions!
